Extracts the original. Zero uploads.
Gulag Cleaner is a static web app. When you drop a PDF, the open-source gulagcleaner engine, compiled to WebAssembly, runs in your browser and rebuilds the document without the ads. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Recognises the platform
Wuolah and StuDocu don't paste ads next to your notes: they embed each original page inside a new page with banners, covers and watermarks. The engine identifies which of the two the file comes from and applies the matching method.
Extracts, doesn't crop
Instead of cropping areas of the page, the engine locates the original page embedded inside each ad wrapper and rebuilds the PDF from those pages only. The result keeps the quality of the source document.
Generic method
If the file doesn't come from Wuolah or StuDocu, a generic method removes full-page ad pages and banners. It's less precise, which is why the result is checked afterwards.
Safety net
The site runs the engine twice, in a cautious mode and an aggressive one, counts the pages of each result and discards any that ends up empty or removes more than 80% of the document. It keeps the one that preserves more pages. If neither passes the check, you get your original PDF back untouched.
Preview and download
Before downloading you see thumbnails of the first six pages and the count of removed pages. The file is generated in memory and downloaded from your own browser.
